The painting depicts the development of a new build next to the Jury's Inn hotel on Eyre Street in late 2019 /early 2020. The halo surrounding the looming construction comes from the flood lights of Bramall Lane reflecting off the low cloud that obscures the top of the building. The style is reminiscent of academic painting styles of the 19th century. For Andy the shadowy mass of the new build suggests the emergence of some cthonic monstrous entity amongst the modern city. By stepping into an unknown future a dark malevolent past is somehow reasserting itself.
