Where Chippinghouse Road nudges onto London Rd this ruined sofa sat for a big part of 2020 going into 2021.
The painting: A large 3 seater sofa fills the composition. Wall, pavement and fencing can be seen but all is crowded out of view by the mass of the sofa. It's fabric is a leather like covering, but it's worn with cracks, discolouration and creases showing where the leatherette has debonded from the surface it should usually cling to. Dark, worn and expanded with moisture evoking a feeling of swollen discomfort. For me, this painting is mostly a mood piece, having said that many associations have multiplied with time. There are moments where I see it as a comment on myself at that moment.
